Why is pickleball more popular than tennis?

What is pickleball and why do more people tend to talk about pickleball on social media? Let’s know more about this amazing sport. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the United States.

People switch from tennis to pickleball for many reasons. Players feel that pickleball is less demanding on the body, that the sport is faster and more exciting than tennis, that more people have access to pickleball than tennis, and that any surface is suitable for playing pickleball.

There is great concern in the tennis community about the number of tennis players switching from tennis to pickleball and the number of tennis courts being repurposed as pickleball courts.

Why are tennis players turning to pickleball?

Pickleball ranked as America's fastest-growing sport in early 2022. Also in April 2022, it was selected as Washington's official state sport, confirming the sport's popularity.

Many tennis players turn to pickleball for a variety of reasons. Tennis is a difficult sport to play competitively when you are older or injured. As mentioned earlier, pickleball is less taxing on the body, so it's no wonder that older generation tennis players, like those dealing with injuries, have far less physical options.

Tennis players who play more professionally prefer pickleball in downtime between tournaments because it's less stressful and it's a variation of the game they love.

Beginners or young tennis players may find that tennis is too time consuming and requires hours of repetition making the amount of work you have to put into the sport to perfect your shot and rank up is daunting and frustrating. These players will be leaving and joining pickleball because it requires less skill and has more opportunities to play. Many novice tennis players complain that they are not well-received at tennis clubs and are more welcome at pickleball.

Pickleball is a new sport compared to tennis and can be a challenge here. People tend to see tennis as a sport for the old, the rich, and the elite. Tennis clubs have strict rules and regulations and often exorbitant membership fees that keep potential players out of the sport.

Compared to tennis, pickleball is more relaxed, friendly, engaging and easy to master. Pickleball may be gaining in popularity, but it will not replace tennis as tennis players can enjoy it and vice versa.

This is why more and more tennis players are switching to pickleball! You love pickleball, find a pair of pickleball paddles and equip them!
